FAQs

What's the weather/geography like?

The weather should be pleasant- daytime highs into the 80s, with overnight lows of ~50.  Mammoth is a high altitude location, so be sure to drink A TON OF WATER, and bring ibuprofen and dramamine in case of altitude sickness.  Also be aware that the mountains make their own weather, and brief afternoon thunderstorms are common.  Always have a rain shell and water in your daypack!

What's the terrain like (aka are my shoes ok)?

The ceremony will be on the shores of an alpine lake, and the ground is made up of fine shale talus.  Stiletto heels may be tricky.  The reception will be on a relatively level 'lawn', however this is not the same manicured lawn of your house in the Hamptons.  On the continuum of hiking boots to 8" stiletto's, I would err on the side of sensibility.  Bringing a backup pair of flats is a good idea!

I got here early.  What should I do?

The eastern Sierras provide limitless outdoor recreation opportunities.  You can go to Convict Lake where they have boat rentals, horse rentals, hiking, and a well stocked lake to fish for trout.  You can hike up the breathtaking Rock Creek Trail from Mosquito Flats (https://goo.gl/maps/GsqKMBZBkjcXz9N26).  You can enjoy a beer at Mammoth Lake Brewing Company.  You can explore the many hotsprings off of Benton Crossing Road (go south on 395 from Mammoth Lakes, and turn left at the historic green church just after the airport)

Oh no! Uber and Lyft don't work here? How do I get back from the bar?

Uber and Lyft don't really operate in Mammoth.  If you're going to the bar, please call Mammoth Cabs at 760-934-2227.  They're reasonably priced, and will make sure you get home safely!
